This statement clarifies the ethical behavior of all parties involved in the act of publishing an article in the Journal of Business Innovation & Strategy (JBIS), including authors, editors, peer reviewers, and the publisher
This statement is based on COPE’s Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.
Duties of Authors
Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that their work is entirely original and properly cite or quote the work and words of others.
Data Integrity: Authors must present accurate data and provide access to research data if required.
Acknowledgment of Sources: Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given.
Authorship and Contribution: All listed authors must have made a significant contribution to the research.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial or substantive conflicts of interest.
Reporting Standards: Authors should present their research results clearly, honestly, and without fabrication or manipulation.
Multiple or Redundant Publications: Authors must not submit the same research to multiple journals simultaneously.
Duties of Editors
Publication Decisions: Editors are responsible for deciding which articles should be published based on their quality and significance.
Fair Play: Manuscripts shall be evaluated based on intellectual content without regard to race, gender, nationality, or political beliefs of the authors.
Confidentiality: Editors must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, or potential reviewers.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Editors must not use unpublished materials for their own research without the author’s consent.
Ensuring Ethical Guidelines: Editors must take reasonable steps to ensure the quality and integrity of the publication process.
Duties of Reviewers
Confidentiality: Reviewers must treat all manuscripts as confidential documents.
Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively without personal criticism of the author.
Acknowledgment of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors.
Timeliness: If a reviewer feels unable to complete the review in a timely manner, they should notify the editor immediately.
Disclosure and Conflict of Interest: Reviewers must not review manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with the authors.
Duties of the Publisher
Publication Ethics Monitoring: The publisher ensures that ethical guidelines are followed and takes necessary actions to prevent publication misconduct.
Editorial Independence: The publisher does not interfere with editorial decisions and ensures that articles are evaluated purely based on academic merit.
Handling Misconduct: In cases of suspected misconduct, the publisher works with editors to investigate and take appropriate actions, such as publishing corrections or retractions.
